Prayers and Squares

Austin Heights Baptist Church is an active member of the International Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry, Chapter 475, We meet to pray and sew most Wednesday evenings.   When a simple lap-sized quilt is complete, strings are sewn where the seams join.  During worship, we pray as a congregation for someone going through a life crisis.  The quilt is passed around for individual prayers as knots are tied on the strings.  The prayers can be "felt".
"A prayer quilt is the physical representation of the biblical principle 'love thy neighbor.'  They are a symbol of faith in God, faith in each other and faith in prayer.  We believe that prayer can be a force for change.  The prayer quilt can bring comfort, strength, joy, and healing."  (by Kimberly Winston in Fabric of Faith:  A Guide to the Prayer Quilt Ministry)

Project Belize

Austin Heights Baptist Church supports international as well as local missions.  We financially support the Baptist Peace Fellowship, the Cooperative Trust, and the Baptist World Alliance.  We are involved in local ministries such as Habitat for Humanity of Nacogdoches, the Alzheimer's Association and LOVE, INC. through financial giving as well as volunteerism.  Project Belize is a medical mission in Central America which we support financially and with volunteers.
